The 2026 H1 Energy-Efficiency Deadlines Builders Need to Know

 


Energy efficiency is now a central design and construction issue for New Zealand buildings.

The deadline does not mean every project must suddenly redesign on 26 November. The applicable requirements depend on when the consent application is submitted and the compliance pathway used.

However, projects in design during 2026 need an early decision. A project that expects to lodge late in the year should be designed to the new documents unless the team has confirmed that the earlier pathway will remain valid.
